If you've lost your keys, the first step is to follow the steps (coat and trouser pockets included). You might be asked to show evidence of ownership, such as the title of your vehicle or registration.

If your car is older, it may have a transponder or smart fob that require programming to work with the immobiliser systems within the vehicle. A locksmith in the automotive industry can assist.

Keyless Entry

Keyless entry lets you unlock your car and start it without having to insert the key into the lock. The system works by using radio waves that are released by the vehicle and a keyfob that is searching for the signals. If the fob is within the range of these signals, it will transmit a code that unlocks the doors and disarms the vehicle's standard immobiliser system located within the engine control unit (ECU).

Some systems offer a remote-ignition feature that allows you to start your car by using the key fob, or a button located on the dashboard. This feature is a lifesaver when you have to go out to buy groceries or if keys are locked inside.

The most obvious benefit of having a keyless entry system is convenience. You can access your car without having to fiddle with your keys in the dark, which is difficult when you're carrying loads. This system can be used to open the trunk and hatch which is great when you're carrying a lot of cargo.

If your keyless entry or push-button start does not work there may be a problem with the key fob's battery. If this is the reason you can usually tell by looking for an icon on the back of the key fob which you can press. If this fails, you may have to take your vehicle to a professional locksmith or dealer to have the key fob programmed.

Immobiliser

The Immobiliser is an integrated security device that blocks you from beginning your car without having a key. It works by matching the digital code on the key fob or the key to the unique code that is embedded in the vehicle's ECU. If the codes match the ECU will activate the fuel system and ignition. If the codes do not match the fuel pump or ignition circuit will be stopped and your car won't begin.

The Immobiliser is effective in preventing most thieves from hot wiring or even starting your car however it's not completely foolproof. Criminals with a strong will can beat it. It is crucial to take additional measures, like keeping valuables secure and not putting them inside the car when you are away.

A faraday pouch is an additional security measure. It blocks the signal between the car's electronic system and the key fob, making it more difficult for criminals and thieves to copy and intercept that signal. The most recent Suzuki models also feature another security measure that requires the key to be placed close to the ignition when turning it on.

Modern immobilisers are susceptible to attacks from criminals with advanced capabilities, despite these measures. In one study, Jaap Bokslag, a researcher from the University of Amsterdam, tried to steal three vehicles of a popular brand and then crack the immobiliser in just six minutes using known vulnerabilities.

Security System

Suzukis are among the most popular cars on Australian roads. They come with a factory installed immobiliser to stop them from being hot-wired. When you use the key to start your car, it has an internal transponder chip which is a bit smaller than a PS1 coin - that transmits a unique code to your electronic control unit of the vehicle (ECU). If the ECU doesn't receive this code when you insert the key into the ignition barrel, your vehicle won't start.

In the years prior to 1996, suzuki replacement key dealers used two different dealer-installed systems. The first system was produced by Advance Security. The original keyfob used for this system had the Suzuki brand on the front and FCC ID B23AT54 on the back. The original keyfob has no longer been available, however Remotes Unlimited still has a 2-button Hellfire Remote (also made by Advance Security).

After 2000 the first year of production, all new Suzukis come with a factory-installed key lock system. The system comes with an immobiliser built in. The key contains a tiny transponder embedded underneath a plastic head. The chip has a sophisticated code that the car's ECU looks for when you insert the key into the ignition barrel. If the chip on the new key does not coincide with the one in your ECU then the car will not start. The issue could be a bit tricky to repair however our Auckland auto locksmiths know how to fix it swiftly and easily.

Keys

The majority of Suzukis come with a key that contains an embedded microchip (transponder chip) which is smaller than a coin in your pocket. When you insert your key into the barrel of your ignition the ECU in your car reads the key's code from this chip, and if the code doesn't match, the car will not start. If you have lost your key and do not have a spare car keys suzuki you will require an auto locksmith that is equipped to replace it.

I supply and program two or three Suzuki transponder keys and smart key fobs a week, and they are easy to program. If you've lost all your keys, you'll require a visit to your dealer or a locksmith equipped with a good diagnostic tool as they will need to code the new replacement to your vehicle. This process could be as long as a week for genuine suzuki swift key fob dealers. Auto Locksmiths are equipped with this equipment to code and can do it much quicker and more affordable. However, this is not the case for keys that don't require coding.woman-showing-the-car-keys-2022-12-16-22-09-32-utc-min-scaled.jpg
